After I click to go ahead in step 3 I get an error on the next page saying "Unable to write entry | Failed to extract archive!

I'm updating from 1.5.14 to 1.5.15 using the patch.

I am having same problem,

have attached a screen shot.

here is the error again:

file_put_contents(/home/surfingj/public_html/cms_j/templates/ja_purity/index.php) [function.file-put-contents]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/surfingj/public_html/cms_j/libraries/joomla/filesystem/file.php on line 298

this is line 298 $ret = file_put_contents($file, $buffer);

Even though it says that it

failed to open stream: permission denied
failed to extract archive

when you navigate back to the control panel and check the site it in fact has updated the site, well at least Joomla thinks it has.

I have done this on two sites now with same result.

site seem to function correctly.

any ideas?

mmmmm....

is there anyway to find out if it has actually updated to 1.5.15?

both sites I am working on are testing sites and are wanting to do the same to a live site.

can anyone put us on track? or maybe tell us how we can manually do it? can we just replace the files from the patch download through FTP?

thanks
