Dragon Blox GigaBlox Review

Peter & Sons have toned down the quirkiness in a few releases recently, including this one. Dragon Blox GigaBlox comes with 3D style video game visuals, and a giant red dragon is fast asleep curled around the 6x6 grid. You get Gigablox and wilds to keep you going in the base game, and you can switch on the Ante bet to shorten the gap between bonus round triggers. This also provides you with extra gigablox, which may lead to larger wins.

We are not quite sure if Peter & Sons are moving fully away from their oddball visual style, which would be sad, or if they are merely experimenting with new styles. Anyway, you still get a charming display, but perhaps with stronger mainstream appeal, time will tell. The game revolves around a bonus round with extra gigablox, and the Lock’n Blox streak respins round that comes with merging symbols for prizes up to 5,000x your stake. The overall max win is 10,000x, just to be clear.

Dragon Blox GigaBlox Slot Features

You can turn on/off the Golden Bet feature between base game spins, and this increases the gigablox hit rate while also increasing your bonus round chances.

Each spin costs 1.5x more with the golden bet turned on, and there are no specifics available about the benefits, unfortunately. The premium character symbols pay between 1.2 and 4 x your stake for 6 of a kind win, and Wilds pay the same. Wilds also step in for pay symbols to help complete wins, like wilds usually do.

You need 6+ lock’n blox tokens in view to trigger the Monster Jackpot Lock’n Blox Bonus Game, and the triggering tokens become sticky on an otherwise cleared grid. You start with 3 respins, and the tally resets each time you land at least one new sticky lock’n blox token.

Adjacent tokens can merge to form larger symbols, and the prize range increases with the size of the symbols. Overall, the tokens range in value from 1x to 5,000x, and everything is summed up when the feature ends.

This happens when you either run out of respins, or fill the grid.

The Monster Bonus Round triggers when you land at least 6 free spins scatters in view, and you get the same amount of free spins as you landed triggering scatters. The gigablox hit rate increases in the bonus round, and you win +1 extra spins per scatter that lands.

You can also trigger the Monster Jackpot Bonus from within the feature, and non-UK players can buy 5 to 20 random free spins for 65x the stake. The Lock’n Blox Bonus is available for 100x the stake.

The 200 Spins Dragon Blox GigaBlox Slot Experience

You get a decent taste of the base game, before we purchase the Lock’n Blox bonus at 1:38 into the 4:39-minute highlights video. We buy the free spins round right after, and it starts around 2:50 into the video. You can see for yourself how it all played out by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

It seems that Peter & Sons is trying to transition gradually to a new visual style, or perhaps they’re simply experimenting to see if something sticks. We are huge fans of their initial artwork style, but it hasn’t really catapulted them into the mainstream stardom they probably hoped for. Dragon Blox GigaBlox gave us similar vibes as the previous Dungeon Tower, and having a dragon asleep around the grid is hardly something we haven’t seen before.

The same can be said about the features, and we would prefer if Peter and his sons are more specific about the ante bet benefits in future releases. Fans of Zelda, and similar games, will probably enjoy the video game visuals, but we have no trouble understanding why the dragon only wakes up for the bonus rounds.

Both features are fairly straight-forward stuff though, with very little new to offer, although 10,000x can be squeezed out of them on a very good day.

Pros

  • Gigablox symbols on every spin
  • Hold & Win round w/ merging symbols
  • FS w/ higher chance of larger gigablox
  • Win up to 10,000x your stake

Cons

  • Nothing really new to see here
  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges

On the whole, Dragonblox presents a hearty fantasy scene, somewhat less imaginative than Monster Blox was due to the popular dragon guarding a hoard of riches. Overall, Dragon Blox GigaBlox is a smooth, well thought-out video slots game with slick graphics and plenty of great bonus opportunities. The Lock'n Block bonus.
