The Joomla! Update Manager (JUpdateMan) was originally a research project to develop a proof of concept tool that could update Joomla! 1.0 sites to prove it could safely be done as part of the core in later releases of Joomla!. This tool is the logical evolution of that original tool now designed to support Joomla! 1.5

JUpdateMan currently supports the following features:

• Ability to update your Joomla! site
• Download updates from the web using PHP fopen wrappers or cURL
• Download updates via a HTTP proxy server
• Handle systems that use FTP mode or those that don't
• Ability to update the extension to a newer version
• Ability to display a message about the Joomla! update such as important release notes
