My hosting now has fopen and cUrl enabled.

If I use fopen I get an error "Download Failed: Remote Server connection failed: fopen(jsitepoint.com/update/packages/joomla/update.xml) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found; Using Proxy: No(42)"

If I use cUrl I the file downloads with 0 bytes, and I get a checksum error.

I've tried manually downloading the patch then uploading to the server and using the option to install from there, but I get a "zero bytes" error even though the file doesn't have 0 bytes.

I do have a 6Mb max filesize - could this be a problem if any of the files inside the zip are larger than that?

I'm getting the error message MD5 checksum error too. I tried switching the parameters to curl and got the following note:
Note: You are using cached update mode. You will need to upload the update files to your temporary directory before continuing.

I tried to import the package file to the temporary directory and got the error: Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.Path does not have a valid package.

I'm a beginner so any help would be great! This looks like this will be a great component to have once it's working.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let people know, that I was having both the wrapper, and the checksum error ( when changing from fopen to curl )

The issue was that it WAS working the last time I used it.. so in trying to track things down, I remembered that I had installed a security package!!! GuardXT was the one I was using, and this makes custom changes to my php.ini in the root and /administrator to disable fopen and play with the temp directory..

So I temp removed the added lines, did my updates and added the lines back.

A bit of a pain, but from my logs the security software has already saved me from a few problems, so a quick edit of 2 files from cpanel is a small price to pay for the security... and its still quicker to do that and use Update Manager than to so a manual update!

Hope this helps someone.

I'm getting this, too -- trying to install the 1.5.19-to-1.5.20 patch.

Funny thing is that it was working a couple of weeks ago when I installed the 1.5.19 patch. Anyone else having problems with the 1.5.20 patch?

FTP layer not enabled
Extraction method: tried them all
Download method: curl
no proxy;

Thanks for any help.

I had this issue with a twist - two sites configured identically on my localhost. One would update no problem while the other had the MD5 checksum error. I tried the suggestions here, and every combination of the parameters that I could think of, all to no avail.

After yet another failure, on a whim I clicked the browser's refresh button and the problem resolved. A timing issue?
