I'm trying out Update Manager on my test site - I'd like to make it as simple as possible for users (including admins) to maintain the site. I have Joomla! 1.5.9 installed, I'm using curl (fopen gives an error).

In step 2 I get "Error: MD5 checksum does not match! Delete and redownload file."

I've tried both the patch and the full, and I've tried the 1.6 and 1.5 Default extractors, and downloaded a couple of times to check if it was a blip during downloading.

What else could I look at to find the problem?

TIA

Are you running in FTP mode as well?

I've checked settings on my server and Joomla! installation, and preferences on Updatemanger, but I can't find this. I do have FTP access to the server, which I use rather than the host file manager.

Hello!

Same is going on on my site.

After checking my temporary folder where the update should go, the update file reveals a size of 0B. If I place the right update file in the temporary folder, the component kills the file and substitutes it with a new one, 0B again.

FTP Layer is on, BTW.

Any help? Thanks so much in advance!

PS: If I ever get this to work it will be rated top of the top extensions you should have under Joomla!

I have just restored the site on my computer and the component works perfect so I guess the problem is the server or permissions with the temporary folder.

I'm using fopen in local and works. Online can't use that option as it gives me the next message:

Download Failed: Remote Server connection failed: fopen(http://jsitepoint.com/update/packages/joomla/update.xml) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found; Using Proxy: No(42)

Any idea of what I should ask for to my hosting guys?

Thanks again!

I know the max file size on my host that I'm using for testing is 10mg, so is it possible that this is what's causing the error?

I'll have to try it on my local site.

My localhost gives the "unable to write entry" error - the file it doesn't like is the banner component - when I first set up my localhost I deleted that core component by mistake (I knew even less than I do now!). So the checksum error is something to do with hosting, I should think.

Can you explain the FTP mode a bit more please - then I can dig about and see if I can find the problem. Thanks.
