User Sources/Synchronization

Synchronization is a feature of User Sources that is aimed at keeping the Joomla! user database in line with an external resource. Primarily it is designed to match usernames and then validate group maps to ensure that the users relevant Joomla! access matches the external source.

Synchronization can be in multiple modes:

  • Automatic: The user is automatically synchronized using one of the below options:
    • Active: Each time a user accesses the site, the external source is checked to see if there is any changes.
    • Login: When a user logins, their details are synchronized
    • Never: The user is never automatically synchronized
  • Bulk: An administrator may bulk update all users at any time.
