LDAP Tools/Install Guide

When installing the Joomla! SSO plugin/mambot you will need to determine which version of Joomla! you are targetting. Due to differences between Joomla! 1.0 and 1.5 (most notably the libraries system), one installation package and source tree cannot be used to provide both systems.

Joomla! 1.0

Joomla! 1.0 doesn't contain support for LDAP within the Core requiring an extra file to be installed to make support for LDAP available to the plugin. This can be done non-obtrusively and is not a Core hack so will not be altered by any future upgrades of the system. As such it will not be patched as a part of the normal 1.0 security release schedule.

The latest release of the LDAP Tools for the Joomla! 1.0.x series has a slightly different approach of addressing the lack of core LDAP support. Presently there are three bots available to install from the [1] site:

  • Joomla LDAP
  • LDAP Single Sign In aka SSI (applicable for appropriately configured Active Directory, openLDAP or Novell Directory Services (eDirectory) systems).
  • LDAP Single Sign On aka SSO (only supported on Novell Directory Services based systems using Netware [not OES] servers).
  • LDAP Synchronization.

In this release, the library is a mambot which is included at the system level. IMPORTANT: Please install the Joomla! LDAP bot first and configure it. Once it is configured, you can either manually reconfigure the other two bots (SSO or SSI) or allow them to use the main bot's configuration. In addition the LDAP bot needs to be ordered above either of the other two bots (but the ordering of the SSO or SSI bots isn't important). The suggested ordering folows:

  • Joomla! LDAP
  • LDAP Single Sign In
  • LDAP Single Sign On
  • LDAP Synchronization

Note: There is an explanation of parameters available.

Joomla! 1.5

Due to the development of the libraries infrastructure and the inclusion of the LDAP library in this release, the relevant single signon bot can be used without the need to install external libraries. Just install the plugin like you would normally. The system will then need to be configured using the plugin manager.

Note: There is an explanation of parameters available.
